Austrian Industrial Research Promotion Fund

The Austrian Industrial Research Promotion Cooperation is Austria's most important source of finance for research and development projects carried out by industry. The cooperation - established in 1967 under the Austrian Research Promotion act - is an independent legal entity. The cooperation’s services are aimed at industry, economy, Sciences as well as politics and administration.

The main goal of the FFG is to promote Austria’s industry in a sustainable way. As part of the Austrian innovation effort the cooperation’s supports the national economy and national and international research.

FIT-IT

FIT-IT, short for Research, Innovation, Technology and Information Technology, is an Austrian research programme that focuses on high-quality research in the area of information and communication technology. As an initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation, and Technology, the programme will offer more than 10 million Euros in 2005. FIT-IT has been running since 2002 and continually searches for challenging topics likely to become an important part of our IT future. Currently, there are three programme lines: "embedded systems", "semantic systems and services" and "systems-on-chip".

Information and Communication Technologies

The objective of ICT research under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is to improve the competitiveness of European industry – as well as to enable Europe to master and shape the future developments of these technologies so that the demands of its society and economy are met. The EU Member States have earmarked a total of € 9.1 billion for funding ICT over the duration of FP7; making it the largest research theme in the Cooperation programme, which is itself the largest specific programme of FP7. FP7 research activities will strengthen Europe’s scientific and technology base and ensure its global leadership in ICT, help drive and stimulate product, service and process innovation and creativity through ICT use and ensure that ICT progress is rapidly transformed into benefits for Europe’s citizens, businesses, industry and governments.

Information Society Technologies

European research activities are structured around consecutive four-year programmes, or so-called Framework Programmes. The Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) sets out the priorities - including the IST Priority - for the EU's research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities for the period 2003-2006. These priorities have been identified on the basis of a set of common criteria reflecting the major concerns of increasing industrial competitiveness and the quality of life for European citizens in a global information society. This is elaborated upon in the Information Society Directorate-General's (DG) mission statement.

Modern economic policy is orientated towards enterprise in its entirety. The Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung creates general operating conditions and structures and therefore enables entrepreneurial success. The Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung connects Tirolean companies in order to mutually gain new markets. The Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung creates platforms and facilities for the transfer of knowledge and technology. Trans IT

TransIT is the Development and Transfer Center of the University of Innsbruck and the Management Center Innsbruck. The center is focusing on the development of high-level quality cooperation between research and industry with an added value for both sides which will consequently lead to better competitiveness of all partners involved. The main focus point of the center is to facilitate beneficial and long-lasting cooperation. TransIT supports the project DERI Sustainability and Business Development.
